Gutter Distance From Roof Edge

Gutter distance from roof edge. Looking right down the line of the guttering the gap between the end of the last roof tile and the outer edge of the guttering varies from around an inch and half to in some cases millimetres. In fact in most places i was unable to get my fingers never mind my hand into the guttering to clear it. For rainy climates where gutters will handle a larger amount of water for long periods they should have a maximum distance of 18 inches apart between them. Conventional fall protection guardrail fall restraint or fall arrest system is required.
Most new gutter sections come in lengths of ten feet and it should be placed where there is the maximum chance of rainwater falling from the roof and into the gutter. Gutters should be hung where a straight edge laying on your roof shingles can easily extend over the front lip of the gutter this is the proper installment location for the high point of the gutter. The back edge of the gutter should tuck up behind the dripedge if you have it otherwise the edge of the shingles should extend well over the back half of the gutter so the drips cannot get behind it and rot the fascia board. Space the guttering away from the soffits so that it is not covered by the eaves of the roof or else the rain will be diverted elsewhere instead of where it belongs.
The 3 would be the distance measured from the drip edge the point at which the water falls from the roof to the top of the gutter. Tester101 jul 11 12 at 16 01 show 5 more comments. Gutters should slope an inch or two for every 40 feet. Last edited by steves7839.
And this way when the water comes down the roof it will drop from the shingle to the flashing to the gutter. I doubt that rule was followed on my gutters. A normal gutter will have about 1 2 3 4 of its width sticking out beyond the shingles to catch the runoff. Between 6 feet and 15 feet from the edge.
That said gutters need to be completely level from front to back or water could spill over either edge. Since the gutters have to slope down towards the downspout this distance will increase as you get closer to the downspout. It s not uncommon for homeowners to hang the gutters so that the front edge is slumping forward too much. A secured designated area in lieu of conventional fall protection is acceptable as long as the work is both infrequent and temporary.
In almost every instance gutter installers take the path of least resistance and shove the gutter right underneath the roof shingles instead.
