Roconnor just to further clarify it is a large fixed open gas grill set in masonry on the side of the deck directly under an unprotected combustible roof projection. Most grill manufacturers will tell you to keep a minimum of two feet from your gas grill. They mean exposed wood rafters wood soffit boards plywood decking and so forth.
I grilled under a 9 treated lumber deck once or twice a week for a summer and a couple times in the snow and have had no damage with my weber genesis gas grill. Grill maker weber offers similar advice. The balcony was open on 3 sides so there was plenty of airflow. In fact the united states consumer product safety commission recommends you place the grill at least 10 feet from any standing structure source. It has a cast enclosure probably more heat dissipated than your egg but much less than a sheet metal cheap grill. Always keep your grill at least 5 feet. An exhaust hood can be expensive but it is effective at managing smoke when the grill is under a roof or near a window and may prevent smoke from entering the home and triggering the alarm system.
Kalamazoo recommends using a grill under a roof only with a hood vent or with a ceiling made of fireproof material.
