Garage Door Opener Button Only Closes Door If You Hold

There is a safety sensor mounted near the floor on either side of the door these sensors have electronic eyes that have to see each other or the door control stops the garage door from closing.

If the garage door will close when you hold the wall control button in and the remotes only make the door go down a few inches and return the problem is in the door safety sensor circuit. Try making small adjustments. Check for interference from adjacent photo eye sensors of any brand.

So if you have to do this to close the door it means the sensor is malfunctioning. Neither wireless remotes work. But the opener balks at closing the door the tension setting probably needs to be increased. If an operational problem exists and the garage door opener will not close the opener can be forced to close.

You might have absentmindedly unplugged the operator as you were exiting the garage through your internal door to the house.
